ANDERSON, Mary, Obituary
General Debility Causes Death of Aged Woman of City.
Old age and general debility caused the death at 5:30 Monday afternoon of Mrs. Mary Anderson, age 87, at her home, 512 Woodbury street, after an illness of several months, during which time Mrs. Anderson had been gradually failing.
Mrs. Anderson was born Sherland in Denmark, Mar. 13, 1828. Her husband died in Denmark in 1887, and immediately afterwards she came to this country, settling in Marshalltown. Eight children were born to her, seven of whom are living. One son, O. P. Anderson, died seven years ago. The children living are A. P. Anderson, of this city; H. P. Anderson, Tacoma, Wash.; N. P. Anderson, North Dakota; Peter Anderson, Fruitland Park, Fla.; Miss Mary Anderson, Des Moines; Mrs. Hans Rasmussen, north of the city; and Mrs. Anna Nelson, three miles west of the city. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the residence, Rev. O. Ingvoldstad officiating.
LOVELEE, Levi S., Obituary
Levi S. Lovelee, Member Home Short Time, Dies of Grip.
Death due to influenza, which is very prevalent thruout the different buildings at the soldiers' home, claimed Levi S. Lovelee, age 78, a member of the institution from Maquoketa, at 9 o'clock Monday night.
Mr. Lovelee came to the home on Oct. 7, 1915. He was a native of Jefferson county, New York, where he was born July 18, 1837. He served in Company M., Fourteenth New York heavy artillery, enlisting at Adams, N. Y., Dec. 13, 1863. He was discharged Aug. 26, 1865, at Washington.
One daughter, Mrs. Jennie Sanborn, of Maquoketa, survives Mr. Lovelee, but is now in Los Angeles for the winter. The body will be sent to Maquoketa tonight for burial. [Evening Times-Republican (Marshalltown, Iowa), January 4, 1916]
OGDEN, Eber, Obituary
Eber Ogden, aged 91, who entered the soldiers' home Aug. 10, 1915, from Fairfield, died this morning at 10:30 at the home of senile debility. He was born in Cumberland County, New Jersey, Nov. 14, 1824. Mr. Ogden enlisted in Company G, Thirtieth Iowa Infantry, Aug. 13, 1862, at Fairfield and was discharged June 5, 1865, in Washington D. C. He is a widower and has no children. A friend, A. W. Jaques, of Fairfield, was notified and the body probably will be shipped there for burial. SMITH, A. K., Obituary
Old Resident of City Succombs to Cancer of the Bladder.
Following an acute illness of a week, due to cancer of the bladder, with which he had suffered for about four years, Adelbert K. Smith, an old resident of the city, died at 12:50 this morning at his home, 809 West Main street.
Mr. Smith was born at Woodstock, Ill., Nov. 17, 1850, a son of Alexander Smith, who came to this county and settled on a farm north of the city in 1864. With the exception of seventeen years, spent at Grundy Center, Mr. Smith had made his home in this city or in the county. Mr. Smith was united in marriage Sept. 7, 1892, to Mrs. Mary R. Smith, and in addition to his widow is survived by two daughters, Geraldine and Doris. There are also living four brothers and two sisters, in the persons of Alexander Smith, Mrs. George Johnson, and Miss Harriet Smith, of this city; Edwin Smith, of Chicago; W. J. Smith, of Gladbrook; and George W. Smith, of Omaha.
