DEATH FOLLOWS OPERATION

W. M. Laffan, Publisher of the New York Sun, Passes Away.

New York, Nov. 19.-William M. Laffan, publisher of the New York Sun, is dead following an operation for appendicitis performed last Monday. Mr. Laffan was born in Dublin, Ireland, Jan. 22, 1848, and had been a prominent newspaper man since 1870. At the time of his death he was president, treasurer, and manager of the Sun Publishing company, a director of Harper & Bros., and president and director of the Lanson Monotype Machine company.
