ASH, Sally, Obituary

Died at her home in Moscow township, Wednesday noon, April 8, 1903, Mrs. Thomas Ash, aged 73 years. She has been failing from old age all winter, Sally Hemstreet was born in Herkimer county, N. Y. in 1840. She was one of a family of ten children. When five years old she moved with her folks to Northern New York where she was married to Richard Davenport in 1850. They came west the following year and lived in Rock county, Wis., until 1865 when they moved to Austin and lived a year. They returned to Wisconsin and spent a year there and came to Moscow township, Freeborn county, near the Lansing line, in 1867, and this has since been the family home. Mr. Davenport, died there May 3, 1894. Seven children were born to them, three of them surviving: Sidney I. Davenport, Mrs. Laura Osborn, Mrs Nellie VanHouse. For a second husband the deceased was married to Thomas Ash. She became a member of the M. E. church at the age of 14 years and ever remained a faithful member. Both husbands preceded her to the better land. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. C. Reynolds of Austin, were held at the residence Friday afternoon. Interment at Fairview cemetery. Thus another of the old settlers has passed from this vicinity and many are left to mourn her departure. [Mower County Transcript, (Lansing, Minn.), April 15, 1903]
