Died, in Sandwich, on the morning of the 30th ult., Hon. Wendell Davis, aged 54 years. He was born in Plymouth in 1776, was graduated at Harvard University in 1796, and pursued the study of the Law with the late Hon. Judge Thomas. He settled in Sandwich, as an Attorney, in 1799, where he received many marks of trust and confidence from his fellow citizens. He was a Senator from this county in 1813, and 1814; and in 1822, in consequence of ill health, resigned the office of High Sheriff, the duties of which he had discharged, with ability and fidelity for many years. Disease, in an excruciating form, had been preying on his heart, for the last ten years; and made him to possess days of weariness, and nights of anguish. He had long expressed his willingness to depart; and his last moments were calm and tranquil. On the morning of the 1st inst., a funeral service was performed at his late residence; after which, his body, attended through the village by a funeral procession, was conveyed to Plymouth, to be gathered to his fathers; according to his desire, frequently express in his life time. - Communicated. FRANCIS, Solomon, Obituary

Died in Sandwich (Marshpee) Mr. Solomon Francis, aged 58, a colored person of extensive acquaintance, and much respected for his moral worth. As a proprietor of the Marshpee plantation, he was always watchful and anxious for the proper management of his affairs, jealous of any encroachment upon, and tenacious of all the rights of the tribe. In his life, he was exemplary for sobriety, benevolence and all the Christian virtues. Possessed of strong powers of mind, he had acquired information, which raised him much above the level of his brethren, and a modest and judicious use of which, gave him an influence upon the habits of the Natives, which will make his decease truly lamentable. He has left an example, worthy of imitation by anyone who would be a Christian, and a philanthropist. - Com. [Barnstable Patriot, Barnstable, MA, Wednesday, March 16, 1831, p. 3]

LEWIS, Hannah, Obituary

Died in this town, Mrs. Hannah, wife of Mr. David P. Lewis, aged 44. The dread destroyer is seldom required to summon to the grave one more needed in the circle of domestic life, or (in our opinion) better prepared to exchange it for death than this Matron. Hers has been the lot, of experiencing, with more than ordinary firmness and faith in the merits of her Savior, with a humble sense of depredence upon her regard and her solicitude. She was an affectionate and a much endeared wife; a tender and devoted mother; a kind, exemplary and respected neighbor and friend.
