MILMORE, Joseph, Obituary

JOSEPH MILMORE, formerly of Boston, died in Geneva, Switzerland, aged 46. He was well-known in his work as a sculptor in connection with his brother, Martin M. Milmore (who died July 21, 1883) and the Sphinx at Mt. Auburn as well as the statuary work at Horticultural Hall are memorials left by the two. Joseph Milmore was born in Sligo, Ireland, but came to Boston when very young. He was engaged first in cabinet making and then in marble cutting, from which he easily advanced to sculptural work. His last effort of consequence was onthe statue of Daniel Webster at Concord, N.H. Some months ago Mr. Milmore married Miss Longfellow of Cambridge. His death now leaves but one, Charles, of four brothers, all of whom have been prominent in their line of art. [Boston Journal, (Boston, MA), January 16, 1886]
