FACE, Almira E., Obituary

Almira Eunice Hoyt was born June 9, 1837 in Hume, Allegany county, New York. She was the daughter of Daniel and Elsey Ann Hoyt and moved with them to Orleans, Mich, when she was nearly two years old. It was all woods here then and only a few neighbors and Indians calling often in their home and wolves and bears and deer around. She received her education in the log school house and later taught school. She was married, September 13, 1855 to Wm. James Face and later settled on a farm near Orleans. Five sons and two daughters came to their home. One son passed away in infancy and 33 years ago her husband died, after which she lived in Ionia a number of years, coming to Belding in 1906 to live with her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Knight. In September had a stroke of paralysis which affected her speech and left her quite helpless, though able to get around the house. Last May she fell, breaking her hip, since which time she has been confined to her bed, patiently waiting to be called home. She passed away September 7 at 6:30 a. m. She was a member of the Church of Christ, a faithful worker for her Master, always cheerful and ready to help others. She leaves behind, four sons, Alva D. of Orleans; Wm. Jay, of Long Beach, Cal.; Luther H. of Aberdeen, S. D.; and Arba H., of this city, and two daughters. Mrs. Elsie Lantz of Long Beach, Cal. and Mrs. C. W. Knight of this city; also fourteen grand children and eleven great grand children: one sister, Mrs. Lucy King, of this city and one brother, Mr. Geo. Hoyt, of Orleans, besides a host of relatives and friends who rejoice that she is released from her long suffering and is at rest. The funeral services ware held at Church of Christ Thursday afternoon. Her pastor Rev. H. E. Curch, being absent, his father, Rev. John Curch, conducted the service. Interment in Orleans cemetery beside her husband. [The Belding Banner News, (Belding, Mich.), Sept. 22, 1920]
