BOXELL, John W. Obituary

One of the Oldest Residents of the State Passes Away.

John W. Boxell, one of the earliest settlers of Minnesota, died yesterday at St. Luke's hospital at the age of 73 from a complication of heart trouble and spasmodic asthma.

Mr. Boxell came to Minnesota from Ohio in 1854 and settled in St. Paul in 1885. He was a charter member of Damascus commandery, Knights Templar, and was prominent in the G. A. R. He was also a member of the Territorial Pioneers, State Horticultural and State Agricultural societies and of the Sons of the American Revolution. He leaves seven children, five sons and two daughters, all of whom live in St. Paul except Dr. William A. Boxell, of Houston, Tex., and Charles A. A. BOxell, of Madelia, Minn. Mrs. Boxell died four years ago. The funeral will probably be held under Masonic auspices tomorrow afternoon. [The Saint Paul Globe, (St. Paul, MN), March 2, 1899]
