Voorhees Burying Ground is located about four miles north of Flemington on the road from Packer's Island to the Woods M. E. Church in the Town of Readington, Huntingdon County, New Jersey. This lot was conveyed May 12, 1854, by deed recorded in Volume 110, page 118, by Ralph V. Smith and Sarah M., his wife, to "John B. Sharp and Joseph Carkhuff, together with the descendants of the following named persons whose bodies have been buried in the lot of ground herein conveyed, viz., Joseph Hankinson (the elder), Benjamin Allegar, Sr., John Huffman, Folkard Voorhees, Cornelius Bowman, Adrian Kinney and Jacob Smith." It contains about a quarter of an acre. It has also been known at various times as the Hankinson, Kinney and Smith Burying Ground from the name of former owners of the farm and of the families represented there, according to the temporary prominence of the name.
