BAILEY, Joseph Mead Obituary

Judge Joseph Mead Bailey, of the State Supreme Court of Illinois, died at his home in Freeport, Ill., last night after an illness of several weeks. Judge Bailey was born in Wyoming county, N.Y., June 22, 1833, and received his preparatory education in the Wyoming Academy. Afterward he went to the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y., from which he graduated. After being admitted to the bar in 1856 he came to Illinois, locating in Freeport, where he lived for nearly forty years. He served in the Legislature, was elected to the circuit bench and was chosen a justice of the Supreme Court in 1888. He was a republican in politics.
